Lupita Nyong’o to Star in ‘Day One’, Spinoff of ‘A Quiet Place’
Variety.com: The “A Quiet Place” universe is adding another A-list name to its world: Lupita Nyong’o.
The Oscar-winning actor from “12 Years a Slave,” “Black Panther” and “Us,” is in final negotiations to star in the spinoff “A Quiet Place: Day One,” which is the next installment of the Paramount horror franchise.
“Pig” director Michael Sarnoski will helm the film, set for release on March 8, 2024. Story details are being kept under wraps, but it comes from an original idea from John Krasinksi, who directed and co-starred in the first two “A Quiet Place” movies with Emily Blunt.
The first two films took place on a post-apocalyptic Earth where terrifying, blind monsters have destroyed society. Even though the deadly beasts can’t see, they use a form of echolocation to hunt their human prey. Krasinski and Blunt, who are married in real life, play Lee and Evelyn Abbott, the parents of two young kids named Marcus and Regan, played by Noah Jupe and Millicent Simmonds. After Krasinski’s character died in the ending of the original 2018 movie, he returned for a cameo role in the 2020 sequel, which began with a prologue before the monsters attacked. “A Quiet Place: Part II” also introduced Cillian Murphy, Djimon Hounsou, Scoot McNairy and Okieriete Onaodowan to its cast.
Nyong’o will be seen imminently in Marvel’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” the long-awaited sequel to 2018’s “Black Panther.” She’ll reprise her role of Nakia. She was originally set to star in Apple’s “Lady in the Lake” adaptation but exited the project in May. In 2014, Nyong’o won an Academy Award for best supporting actress for “12 Years a Slave.”
Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller will produce “A Quiet Place: Day One” via Platinum Dunes alongside Krasinski and his Sunday Night banner with partner, Allyson Seeger, who serves as executive producer.
