Donald Sutherland Dies at 88
Donald Sutherland has died at the age of 88 in Miami after a long illness.
He starred in many movies over his six-decade career in Hollywood. He rose into fame at the age of 35 for playing Hawkeye in M*A*S*H. He became popular among younger audiences for his role in The Hunger Games as the despotic President Snow.
Sutherland never received an Oscar nomination, but in November 2017 the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awarded him an honorary statuette at the Governor Awards.
Born in Canada in 1935, Sutherland was married three times: to Lois Hardwick (1959-1966), Shirley Douglas (1966-1970) and Francine Racette, his present wife whom he married in 1972.
His son actor Keifer Sutherland shared the news of his death on X. " With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away. I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film. Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived."
